"We'll put him in a boot here for a little bit," said Shanahan. "Those tend to be a month, a little more. I can't exactly put a date on it, but that's my experience with high ankle sprains."
Analysis: he 2016 Butkus Award Winner was the story of 49ers training camp, ascending to the starting lineup after veteran free agent addition Malcolm Smith went down with a season-ending pectoral injury.

Analysis: "It was more optimistic than it (initially) looked," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said of Foster's injury. "We're going to have to look more into it. It was definitely better than it seemed out there." Despite the optimistic prognosis, the first-round draft pick still miss some time. Foster, the 2016 Butkus Award winner as a junior at Alabama, had won a starting job in the preseason and was slated to be an every-down linebacker.

Analysis: A troublesome shoulder was one reason the 2016 Butkus Award winner fell to the 31st overall selection in this past spring's draft despite being rated by numerous scouting circles as a top-10 talent. If fully healthy, Foster should immediately compete for a starting job.
