Tarasenko has Howe hat trick, Blues roll

ST. LOUIS (AP) Vladimir Tarasenko dropped his gloves and inspired his teammates.

On a night when he had two goals and two assists , Tarasenko got in a rare fight Tuesday during the St. Louis Blues' 8-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Brayden Schenn also had two goals and two assists, and Jake Allen stopped 26 shots for the NHL-leading Blues (16-5-1).


Boeser scores 2 as Canucks beat Flyers

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Last summer, following the Vancouver Canucks' development camp, coach Travis Green sat down with rookie right wing Brock Boeser and, in no uncertain terms, told him it was time for him to prove he could be an impact player in the NHL.

"Travis gave me a serious talk and told me what I needed to do to make the team and make a difference," Boeser said Tuesday night after scoring two goals to lead the Canucks to a 5-2 win over the slumping Philadelphia Flyers. "I knew it all depended on how hard I worked and so far, it's been going pretty well."


Shore, Spezza help Stars rally past Habs

DALLAS (AP) Skating on the same line after a tactical change during the game, Devin Shore and Jason Spezza sparked the Dallas Stars to a 3-1 comeback win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.

A strong response to Montreal's goal and the move that put Shore, Spezza and Tyler Seguin together made the difference for the Stars.


Penguins' Malkin out at least 1 game

PITTSBURGH (AP) Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will miss at least one game with an upper-body injury.

Coach Mike Sullivan announced the injury on Tuesday. Malkin will sit out on Wednesday night when the Penguins host Vancouver. Sullivan says Malkin will be re-evaluated on Thursday. Pittsburgh visits Boston on Friday and hosts Tampa Bay on Saturday.


Russia F Zaripov gets doping ban reduced

ZURICH (AP) The International Ice Hockey Federation has slashed a doping ban given to Russian forward Danis Zaripov from two years to six months.

He's eligible to play again from Thursday.


Coyotes end Leafs' 6-game winning streak

TORONTO (AP) After a terrible start to the season, the Arizona Coyotes are finally enjoying some success.

Antti Raanta made 26 saves and Arizona ended the Toronto Maple Leafs' winning streak at six games with a 4-1 victory Monday night.


Preds win 7th in 8, end Jets' 4-game run

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) With a chance to contribute on special teams, Mattias Ekholm is showing just how dangerous he can be for the Nashville Predators.

Kyle Turris, Kevin Fiala and Ryan Johansen each had a goal and an assist to lead the Predators past the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 on Monday night.


Flames top Caps, Gaudreau's streak at 10

WASHINGTON (AP) Johnny Gaudreau would rather talk about anything other than his offensive production. He's just making it impossible to avoid.

Gaudreau had a goal and an assist to extend his career-best point streak to 10 games and lead the Calgary Flames to a 4-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Monday night. Gaudreau, nicknamed "Johnny Hockey," has eight goals and 11 assists, and the Flames are 7-3-0 in that time.


Jackets edge Sabres, win fourth straight

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) The Columbus Blue Jackets keep finding ways to win close games.

Sergei Bobrovsky made three of his 30 saves on a power play in the final two minutes, and the Blue Jackets beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 on Monday night for their fourth straight victory.


Ducks outlast Sharks in 9-round shootout

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Antoine Vermette made sure Reto Berra had a memorable first start with Anaheim.

Vermette beat goalie Martin Jones in the ninth round of a long shootout to give the Ducks a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.
